1959 Willys Jeep??

by Lewis
(Elizabethton, Tn)

I bought this Jeep and was told there is no title for it? I'm not sure what I have? The serial number is S/N 57548 83652.

What is the difference between military and civilian Jeep versions? Thanks

Larry's Comment: Lewis...according to the serial number 57548 indicates that you have a CJ5 built between 1955 and 1963.

The last five digits (83652) indicate that your Kaiser Willys Jeep was indeed a 1959 model falling within the range of serial numbers for that year.

The military version of the CJ5 would have been an M38A1 (aka MD model), but the U.S Army discontinued purchasing them in 1957...although they were probably manufactured for other uses until around 1971.

Looks like yours is in pretty good condition from the photos.

Have fun with it!
