Cell Phones for Soldiers
by Laura
(Alexandria, Virginia)
Hi, my name is Laura and I am from Alexandria, VA. I have supported our troops by participating in a program through my church called Cell Phones for Soldiers. They requested all old cell phones be donated either for potential sale or use by a soldier. The mission of the program is to help our soldiers abroad be able to call home and reach their loved ones.
I am also employed as a civilian by the Department of Defense, my organization visits with wounded soldiers while they are recovering at Walter Reed Army Hospital, generally on a quarterly basis. The group focuses on visiting with the soldiers and providing small items to make them comfortable, especially those that do not have family in the area. I have not participated in this program yet, but I plan to when the next opportunity presents itself. Several of my coworkers have participated and have found it extremely rewarding.
With the holiday season fast approaching I am sure there will be many opportunities to support our troops and allies abroad.
