Humvees versus Jeeps

Let me start off by saying, I love jeeps. Owned a few and love them. But if you want to compare the real things, you need to be comparing the military version of the HMMWV and not the H2 and H3. The H3 is an S10 rebody.

I was in the 11th ACR in Germany when we switched from the M151 to the Humvee. Granted it is much larger, but then it can haul more cargo. The military version is very capable or they wouldn't still be using it 30 years later.

Also...kind of hard to compare a 1/4 ton jeep to a 1 1/4 ton truck. The H1 could carry the Jeep. The Jeep would collapse under the weight of the HMMWV

I hate it that too many wannabees drive "Hummers". Most of them never see the dirt, but your comparison is flawed.


Larry's Comment: If you are referring to the comparisons in my "Jeep or Hummer" page, I made it quite clear that the H1 HMMWV was NOT included.

The actual comparisons were between the Wrangler model Jeeps and the civilian H2 and H3 Hummers.

And...as I specifically stated in the article..."The Hummer H1 and military HumVee are not currently available to the public and would certainly give Jeep a run for the money here, if included."
