Since the last full size Jeep Wagoneer rolled off the assembly line sometime around 1991, it and all the previous models going back to 1963 seemed destined for the scrap heap of history...with all the nostalgia of a different time when big was considered beautiful and gas mileage was..well, pretty much irrelevant.

However, there is still a loyal following for the grand old wagoneer and, although I have never owned one, I have always admired the classic styling of what was probably the first true SUV.

Who would have thought that back when the Wagoneer was new that some of them would make great off road rigs as well as family vacation-mobiles?

I have recently seen a fair number of these trail rigged monsters on the street and being used regularly on the trails. While not nearly as nimble as a Wrangler the lifted Jeep Wagoneer with aggressive tires can make a formidable off road screamer, desert hauler, explorer and/or family camping rig.
