Jeep XJ Saved AMC and Chrysler
by Kevin Johnson
(Placerville, Ca. United States)
Don't forget the Cheromanche.
The Jeep Cherokee XJ was born in 1983 first introduced and built as a downsized Wagoneer (that bore no relation to previous models) by the American Motors Corporation in 1984. The XJ Cherokee quickly hit 100,000 sales per year in the U.S. temporarily reviving AMC.
The Chrysler corporation bought the American Motors Corporation in 1987 mainly to receive its revenue from the XJ sales, and these sales are widely acknowledged to have saved Chrysler Corporation from financial ruin.
That being said if it wasn't for the Jeep XJ. or AKA "experimental Jeep" there would be no Chrysler and that means no Jeeps, so if you love Jeeps like I do (whatever Jeep it may be) thank an XJ every time you see one.
