My 1980 Jeep CJ5-Love It!

by David

My '80 Jeep CJ5 after a Day of Fun

My '80 Jeep CJ5 after a Day of Fun

I had just moved to the middle of nowhere in South Western Virginia. My neighbor was selling his Jeep, he only used it for recreation and the deal was great. I was thinking it wasn't practical since I have 2 children and they are both still in car seats.

I purchased the Jeep anyway since I needed a vehicle. I fell in love with it the first time I drove it. The first thing I did was remove the front passenger seat to have easy access to the back seats for the children.

The jeep is almost all stock, a 1980 CJ5 with the 4 cylinder, and the only modifications are the extra roll bar, new bumpers and slightly larger tires (no lift kit). It turns out to be the best vehicle I could have purchased.

On the weekends we head out to some trails and have never had a problem. During the week, I work general maintenance and use the jeep to haul. For having a 4 cylinder engine, it can really pull some logs. In the winter I keep the hard top on, but once spring comes, the bikini top is all I need.

It turns out to be the most practical and versatile vehicle I have ever owned. I never imagined I could fit that many groceries in it since the CJ5 looks so small. I use it for work and play and it does everything I need it to do and more.

I have always admired jeeps and thought my dream of owning one was over once I had children, but I took a chance and fell in love with it.

The odometer just turned to 100,000 miles, so it has a lot of life left.

Larry's Comment: Nice CJ5 David! Also, it's good to hear a father think of his children first. Thanks!

Glad to see you didn't just put up a shiny polished version of your Jeep. Nice to see a Jeep looking the way it's supposed to look...gritty!
