My Mahindra Legend

Some of the more tame river crossings.

Some of the more tame river crossings.

My story is a rather long one with this little Legend.

In short, I live in Port Elizabeth, South Africa and spotted this Jeep at a car dealer packed away right at the back. I fell in love with it right off the bat. Stripped her down and restored her.

Now my wife and I go touring in her in South Africa. We take every back road, jeep track, and often no road as much as possible. This Mahindra Jeep goes anywhere and climbs like a mountain goat.

Planning a trip up Africa for next year, can't wait.

Larry's Comment: Nice looking Jeep, Chris.

Wasn't the Mahindra Legend originally a limited production model, where potential buyers were chosen by invitation only?

That trip up through Africa sounds awesome.

MM 540 DP, 10 seater, hard top.
by: Chris

My Jeep is not officially called a Legend. She is just a legend to me. I am told it is a MM 540 dp. It is a comfy 10 seater.

The papers say it is a 1972 model. It's got that noisy Peugeot motor but I have now bought a Toyota 2c-t motor with a Toyota Hilux 4x4 gear box to put in. Toyota spares are all over Africa so it is a logical upgrade especially for the long trip we are planning.

Larry's Reply: Thanks for clarifying, Chris.

The Toyota motor and tranny should give your MM540 a significant boost.

Wow its marshal !!!

Hi Chris ...

Your Mahindra Legend looks strong enough and more.
As in the picture on India Mahindra upgraded these series in to Mahindra marshal, Maxx for passenger transportation...sold during somewhere around 1999 to 2006. Were available in 2 Wd and 4×4 ( 4wd)
