Traded a Wrangler for a Commander?

Andrew's 2007 Jeep Commander

Andrew's 2007 Jeep Commander

My wife's brother Andrew (my brother-in-law) just traded his 2004 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited for a 2007 Jeep Commander.

What?..you say. Why would anyone give up their Wrangler Unlimited for a Commander?

First I need to tell you that this 2007 Commander is really nice. It is the Trail Rated 4x4 with the 305 h.p. 4.7L V8 engine, which also puts out a respectable 334 ft.lbs of torque.

It is loaded for comfort and function, including front and mid-section sun roofs, leather/heated seats and seating for up to seven adults.

Andrew has a lovely wife and two active pre-teen daughters. He had taken a number of trips to off-road parks in his Wrangler, with his family in tow...and they all had great times together. So why get rid of the Wrangler and go for the big luxurious Commander?

Well, the answer lies in Andrew being practical, as well as a great husband and dad. He uses his vehicle as a daily driver and a fun off road rig. The lack of space and room for no more than 4 people in the Wrangler, made for problems when the girls wanted to take friends along, or they all needed more cargo space.

So, ta-da!...the Commander fit the bill perfectly for the whole family, and since Andrew is more of the "exploring" type (no hard-core rock crawling) the Commander could do most everything he wanted...and please the entire family (and then some) as well.

Also, Andrew has not given up on the "universal" type Jeeps. He is now pondering an older "flattie" CJ, or CJ5/CJ7 "beater" to tow behind the Commander on trips where more advanced trails are in order.

Andrew is a real Jeep guy, and I am proud we are family.
