"Ol Blurpule" My '98 Wrangler

by Mike Arden

I have a '98 standard Jeep Wrangler, she is a 4-cylinder, she is a bluish purple color so I call her "blurpule".

Has a little bit of a wheel upgrade but not too much though. I am a daily driver plus off roader and what I can do..smaller stuff.

I love everything about my Wrangler except I wish I had a 6-cylinder and built up for some good off road use...but money is short these days so I have to be happy with what I have.

Larry's Comment: Mike...a lot of folks would love to have your Jeep...4-banger and all!

Power
by: Daniel

I too have a 2.5L. Should have gotten the 6. Not too much power in that 4, at least for highway driving, and it still gets terrible gas mileage.

I've spent way to much money trying to squeeze more horse power, easily could have paid half for another engine. Your always learning, mines a '98, well just thought I'd comment.

Less is more
by: Cali Jeep John

I had a roommate that was 6'4" 380lbs and he drove a TJ 4-Banger. I couldn't figure it out and thought he was a dope. Later in years, I traded my car for a CJ with a 6 and it was fine, just bumpy & squeaky with those old leaf springs. I sold it but always missed it. Five years later I found the color combo used TJ I wanted, but only in a 4 cylinder. It has been 5 years now and it has proven to be the best car I have ever owned. I have towed a very small trailer and I keep up with freeway traffic often ahead of them 65 to 80 (no trailer). Thanks to the manual shifting I fly and I get 18 mpg avg. So, even though I too look and wonder at the 6, I ask myself how fast do I need to go? Slow down and see the world around you and enjoy your life. If it works don't fix it. If you need more power to pull or carry people get a bigger engine. It's easy.
