The Evolution of the Jeep in the Philippines.

A Philippine Passenger Jeepney

A Philippine Passenger Jeepney

If you haven't been on the Philippines, Jeepneys are our most popular means of public transportation. Although they differ from the American Jeeps we know today, they were originally made from US military jeeps left over from World War II.

Filipinos then stripped down the jeeps to accommodate more passengers and flamboyantly decorated them. These are the jeeps we come to know and love today here in the Philippines. Jeeps have been part of our culture ever since.

For more detailed information about the Philippine Jeep, you may visit it's Wikipedia page. Also, take a look at Airon's Blog Site.

Larry's Comment: Thanks Airon. This is a great part of Jeep history which has gone pretty much unnoticed outside of your neck of the woods.
