"Musky" the 1980 CJ6

by Mohan
(Sri Lanka)

Hi all you CJ fans.

My name is Mohan Fernando, born and live in Sri lanka (at the foot of India on the World Map).

I bought her, a 1980 CJ 6, 8 years ago and added free wheeling hubs and a basic winch. Other than that she's in original condition (with exception of some corrosion now). I don't do hard core off roading. In fact she's my daily runner to the office and back, and I enjoy every minute with her.

Spares are extremely rare in these parts and expensive I might add. Nevertheless, I want to keep her as original as possible. This model was available to our country on a US Aid grant where we in Sri Lanka got 2000 vehicles to the state owned offices. And all were auctioned, and in private ownership, with a few still "in rattling good condition".

Unfortunately many have being modified with the "Jap" engines and exterior components. Hence this has changed the out look.

Mine was the test bed for the diesel engine, a 2600cc Isuzu C240 engine, and is still purring along. I still get a hell of a kick out of leaving an unsuspecting Land Cruiser or 4DR6 Mitsubishi behind. Don't know if it's luck or power, either way they all smell my smoke!

I'm in search for some spares. If any one knows of any, please let me know, at austin.ferdi@gmail.com I have had a few Jeeps myself but this one has stained me, she wont be leaving, she's family now.

Larry's Comment: I'm assuming by "spares" you mean spare parts for the CJ6. Most of the CJ7 parts were interchangeable as well..but are all getting a bit difficult to come by as these CJ's get older and older. Thanks Mohan.

Wonderful Jeep! Do you mind putting her on ebay? I don't mind giving 19 LKR. I'm actually not sure whether it's enough. I'm totally in love with her right now. I use to have a Chevy Nova '64. Nice talking to you.
