My Sweet Jeep Liberty

by K.B.

Nothing runs like a. . . Jeep!

I have a 2006 Jeep Liberty that takes me wherever I want to go and gets me out of some spots that I shouldn't have gone. My Jeep is the Limited Edition 4 x 4. It gives me great gas mileage because I don't have to use the four-wheel drive option unless I run into some trouble. The four-wheel drive is easy to slip into and I've grabbed that handle and pulled it in a split second when I hit a skid or done a nosedive that I thought I might not get out of.

My Jeep has a pretty green metallic color with a nifty little sunroof and an AM/FM stereo radio with the in-dash CD player. Mine came out before the MP3 players were available. I like the cloth bucket seats because they are easy to clean. I've tracked mud and blood into my Jeep and the seats always clean up with a cloth dampened with water and detergent. The floor mats are at the point they won't come clean anymore and I need to order new ones, but they don't shift or curl over the years.

My Jeep is pretty basic, mostly intended for street use with a 3.7-liter V6 engine, automatic transmission, 17” wheels with all season tires, and a 3.73 axle ratio. I have changed the tires from a basic Goodyear “all season” tire to a Goodrich more rugged tire. The axle ratio is great when in standard drive with a very tight turn radius, however, when shifted into 4-wheel drive, the turn ratio is greatly reduced and becomes sluggish and slippery on a tight turn. You just can't do it.

My Jeep is sweet!
