September 11, 2001 Never Again!

I have always supported the men and women in all branches of military service, mainly because I feel that it comes with the territory of being an American. I do have a few of my uncles; Johnny, Larry, Morgan and Harvey, who served during World War II, so that is added into my reasoning. I even attempted to join the Army Reserves when I graduated from high school, but was denied due to poor eyesight.
The biggest reason I support our troops in the fight against terrorism, however, is the fact that on that terrible day I was teaching and just happened to have my planning period during the time that it started. I was in our school library making copies of an assignment for my students to do later that day and we had the television on the news channel to catch the weather. It was as if all of us in there went into shock when it showed the first plane flying into the first tower. We all stood there crying to think of all the lives that were lost in those first seconds, as well as throughout the rest of that awful time. All of the teachers kept our TV sets on throughout the day, and did our best to try to help the students come to grips with what was happening. We originally wanted to try to keep it from them when the towers fell, but some of them had been in the library and saw what the TV was showing and the word spread through the rest of the school in no time. The only option we had left was to try to help them talk it out and hold onto ourselves so the children would not fall apart like we all wanted to do.
Our men and women who serve in all of the armed services deserve our support so as to make sure the events of September 11, 2001 never happen again. My name is Melissa, I live in Georgia and I look forward to the day when all of the soldiers can come home because that will mean that the nightmare is finally completely over and everyone in the world can finally be at peace with one another.
Larry's Comment: Melissa...I agree completely!
