Just had to be a 1991 Mahindra Jeep

by Roger Micallef
(Malta)

I bought my Mahindra Jeep after seeing an advert in one of Malta's newspapers.

I phoned the seller and went to see the Jeep. The condition was half way. It needed some body repair due to some rust, but the reason why it was for sale was because this Jeep decided to suddenly stop whenever it felt like it, and the owner got frustrated whenever it stopped.

Mechanics tried to find the reason, but somehow at one point or another the engine started without any repairs being done, so the Jeep stalled intermittently and repeatedly. This was the reason I bought it.

I just like challenges, especially with problem solving on vehicles when others have had a try but with no success. I managed to find the intermittent fault which only involved cleaning and refitting an electrical slider connection that fed the fuel cut-off solenoid.

I still own the Jeep and do not intend to let her go, even though road licence fees costs 550 euros yearly here in Malta.

Will send photo next time.

Larry's Comment: Roger...It's always a good feeling to solve a long standing problem...especially when the answer turns out to be relatively simple...and cheap to fix.

Looking forward to seeing a photo or two of your Mahindra Jeep.

Fuel Consumption
by: Nicholas

Hey, how are you? Just out of curiosity, since Malta seems to be a pretty small place, how much would you say you spend on fuel weekly, and is it your every day jeep?

Reply regards fuel consumption

Hi, Yes I use the Jeep regularly. Average fuel cost is 25 Euros weekly with normal trips.
